Below, you’ll find a guide of some of the most common horse wagers that can be placed:

Straight Bet (or Single or Win Bet)
A punter simply bets on a winner at posted odds – you would collect only if your selected horse is the first across the finish line.

Place Bet
A punter collects if the selected horse finishes in either first place or second place.

Show Bet
A punter collects if the selected horse finishes in first, second or third place.

Combination Bet
A punter selects anywhere from two to four horses to win in a specific order.

Pick 3 Bet
A punter chooses the winners of three consecutive races.

Pick 6 Bet
A punter chooses the winners of six consecutive races.

Daily Double Bet
A punter selects the winners on any given day’s first and second races.

Jackpot Bet
A punter chooses six winners across six races to vie for a share in a jackpot prize.

Parlay (or Accumulator) Bet
A punter makes multiple selections on two or more races with the understanding that any winnings from the first race is rolled over to the next selected race’s bet, and so on and so forth. In order to win the parlay, each of a punter’s selection must win in order.

The U.K has a few additional bets specific to that territory:

Quiniela (or Reverse Forecast) Bet
A bet that’s placed on two horses to finish first and second in any order.

Perfecta (or Exacta or Straight Forecast) Bet
A bet that’s placed on two horses, but the horses must cross the finish line in an exact order.

Trifecta (or Tricast or Treble Forecast Bet
A bet that’s placed on three horses to cross the finish line in an exact order.

Superfecta Bet
Same as above, but the bet is placed on four horses.
