With the sheer number on online poker rooms increasing almost exponentially, my next statement might shock you.
There’s only a handful of online poker rooms that get it right, in this editor’s opinion, and I’ll give you a detailed review of those that make my top five list.
My criteria is fairly strict: I look for substantial bonuses that are offered to new players and current members, so those loyal customers aren’t left out in the cold. I also look at reputation and integrity levels – I not only glean from what industry insiders feel about a particular online poker room, but as my way of weeding out those that have a hidden agenda or any bias, to get the real skinny.
But there’s something else that I quite obviously look at closely: differing types of poker games that are made available, the number of available tables for each game, and the number of poker players online at any given time. Each of these criteria can make or break an online poker room, and I don’t take that lightly. Neither should you.
So, for the very best reviewed poker rooms, nothing’s left to say but to give ‘em to you:
With over 4,000 online poker tournaments, including the multi-million dollar FTOPS series, Full Tilt Poker is a classy act that has deservedly attracted a truly impressive team of poker professionals, including such luminaries as Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson and Allen Cunningham. A huge television presence has help to cement Full Tilt’s exposure to the masses and with all eyes on it, Full Tilt Poker consistently delivers. Of special note, Full Tilt’s software is also Mac-compatible for all you Apple lovers.
PokerStars offers the world’s biggest online series, WCOOP and SCOOP, and in the same vein, is the world’s largest poker tournament site. Top players that chose sponsorship deals here include Daniel Negreanu and WSOP Main Event champions Joe Hatchem, Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer, who graces their online poker tables regularly. And yes, you can chat with ‘em.
Here at Ultimate Bet, players will find all many of exciting poker games, not to mention 11-time WSOP gold bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, when he’s not too busy during the land-based tournament thing. Merging with Absolute Poker in late 2008, this company has gotten a tremendous foothold in the industry, and subsequently offers up some of the world’s best tournament action available 24/7.
Which leads me to…
Absolute Poker, which even before its 2008 merge with Ultimate Bet had always been an online poker room powerhouse, gives players intense poker game action and some of the best player promotions in the industry.
And finally, for something a little different…
Try a little slice of Cake Poker. Sinking it’s teeth into non-conformity, this site offers a welcome, slightly-skewered and at times irreverent perspective on all things poker-related. And we love them for it. Go ahead – take a big bite.
