5 Card Stud Poker is mostly a game of Pairs and High Cards – not so much straights and flushes (unless you happen to have three cards to a straight flush on third street, or if you think you might get a straight or a flush on 4th). The game is played with only one exposed down or door card.
5 Card Stud Poker include some basic game rules – here’s a quick snapshot:
The highest hand wins,
There are three raise limits per round,
The Ace plays both high and low for straight hands.
Only to determine the lowest upcard to bring in the betting, card denominations are sub-grouped into these suit values in descending order: Spaces (the highest), Hearts, Diamonds and Clubs (the lowest).
In my opinion, there are only a few online poker rooms that excel in their 5 Card Stud Poker game offerings.
General Strategies For Winning At 5 Car Stud Poker:
1. Typically, don’t start without either a pair or at the very least one live card (cards that haven’t been revealed on the board and are possible to get) that beats the board.
2. Typically fold if you don’t have at least a pair in the first three cards. Almost always fold when you’re beaten on the board, and don’t have a good draw to the best hand.
5 Car Stud Poker Game In Action ( $2/$4) :
After the ante up, each player is dealt one card face down and one up or door card. Using our $2/$4 limit game example, the player that has the lowest upcard has to make a forced bet of his / her choice between either a $1 half minimum bet or a $2 full bet to start the game. Moving clockwise, the other players either call the opening bet, raise it, or not call and “fold” their hands back to the dealer. All players get a 3rd card dealt to them face up, followed by a hearty round of $2 betting. From this point forward, the player with the highest upcard(s) is always the first player to check or bet. After the 4th card is dealt face up, the minimum bet goes up to $4. When the 5th card is dealt face up, it’s followed by a final round of $4 betting. The dealer then needs to determine the highest hand and consequently awards the pot.
