Maestro, Solo, and Switch are all related names for UK debit cards now under the MasterCard network.

Originally, Solo and Switch were sister cards, with Solo handling the higher-risk or lower-end customers with a prepaid account and Switch being the more mainstream debit card brand (so mainstream, in fact, that “Switch” is now a common slang term in the UK for debit cards of any brand).

Eventually Switch was re-branded as “Maestro” by MasterCard, with a wider network but few other changes to the service (legacy accounts and numerous merchants may still refer to the card as “Switch” from time to time, online and off). Solo kept its own name, and is still used commonly in the UK. The only major difference between the two is that Maestro utilizes an existing bank account for its debit transactions, while Solo is directly prepaid, more similar to a prepaid credit card.

In the UK, both cards enjoy a wide range of access points (ATMs, businesses, etc.), and of course online access from anywhere. Fast and secure transactions are the rule, with millions of satisfied customers across the UK.
